" Don’t mess with Madonna "

Duration: approx. 1 hour

 

Inspired by the artifacts of the Pärnu Muuseum and more specifically by a small woman’ s statue of the stone age exhibited in the museum and honorably named Madonna, the artists decided to represent four famous madonnas’ of the art world as live statues. The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, The Madonna della Seggiola by Raphael, The Madonna & Child by Jean Fouquet and The Madonna Of The Cross by Malcolm Brocklesby.

 

Madonna, this powerful image of Mother that gathers on her face the western political, ethical, aesthetical and sociological heritage, is presented here in this durational performance as a frozen in time figure. The artists standing still are trying to keep their perfect posture and expression while time is passing by. An intruder will repeatedly try to distort these images with harassments and occasionally violent attacks. The performance will end with these everlasting images showing the signs of their decline.
